“Where is Cambodia’s anti-corruption Law?”
The article “Where is Cambodia's anti-corruption Law?” was published in the website Cambodian Information Center. It was written by LAO MONG HAY on May 28, 2008.
Actually, this article focuses mainly on urging the Cambodian Government to enact the anti-corruption law. Showing many evidences, it also explains the reasons why this law’s important to Cambodia. Moreover, the article estimates some bad points due to the corruption and likewise evaluates the advantages of the anti-corruption law.
Meanwhile the corruption influences its power to every little thing in Cambodian life, anti-corruption law is necessary for Cambodia to develop itself smoothly without corruption, which is known as a big crisis. Corruption in Cambodia is seen almost everywhere, in schools, hospitals, the police, and the judiciary. What we think of corruption’s effect is simply small but in fact it’s further than that. For example, when students give bribes to their teachers, it seems to be the small beneficences. However, the real thing is corruption. It is not only avoiding students from going to school but also cause some problems to students’ family’s income. While a number of students drop out their school increase, Cambodian human resources also face problem.
In contrast, anti-corruption law might not process efficiently in Cambodia. As we all know, many enacted laws have been violated. It means laws in Cambodia are not respected at all. So what about the incoming anti-corruption law? Will it work well in Cambodia? As we already mentioned above, corruption has been already rife in Cambodian lives. Therefore, this anti-corruption law may not work well in Cambodia. Moreover, making a low spends millions dollar. Anti-corruption law has been drafted and redrafted again and again without any hope of enacting. It is nonsense for doing the same thing many times, spend too much money and waste a lot of time. The law itself is importance but yet the government doesn’t seem to care about enacting this law. As the result, Cambodian people start to feel hopeless. They don’t think they can see this law can be generally published and practiced at all. Some of them don’t trust the government because of this reason too.
In conclusion, though enacting the anti-corruption law has some bad points but it is all about small things if we compare it to the destructions of not having this law. Consequently, in case we all, Cambodian young generation, want to help our country to be one of the developed country in the world, please join together to claim for enacting the anti-corruption law from the government and try our best doing whatever advantageous for our country. We can do it.
